Our surveys showed most junior doctors found trust intranets difficult to navigate, being confronted with information overload and there were often challenges finding a free workstation. In most hospitals, junior doctors rely on guides written by other doctors or word of mouth for the tips needed to efficiently do their job. Dr Toolbox provides a standardised way of sharing tacit knowledge between cohorts of doctors within a hospital. It has been refined and now exists for numerous hospitals in the UK, making it easier for doctors to move between hospitals. It is also easy to access not only from the trust intranet, but also smart phones or home computers reducing the need for printing and freeing up hospital computers.
